At 2:10pm today during the Canadian Underwater Conference and Exhibition in Halifax, Nova Scotia in the Breakout Room #2 at the World Trade and Convention Centre Deep Trekker will be giving a presentation about the use of mini-remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) for cleaning up underwater munitions.

In past years munitions were buried under the water as a disposal method before the associated risks of doing so were better understood. Today, the locations and state of these munitions is of ever-increasing concern due to the potential hazards they pose to surrounding ecosystems and people that may come in contact with them.

Companies like CH2M, an organization dedicated to finding solutions to complex problems, are helping the military find underwater munitions and develop solutions to the hazards they may pose. When possible, CH2M is utilizing Remotely-Operated Vehicles, such as the Deep Trekker mini-ROV, to provide critical information on the location and condition of underwater munitions and their surroundings through the lens of a camera instead of risking the safety of divers.

The presentation will focus on this initiative to demonstrate how mini-ROVs like Deep Trekker DTG2 and DTX2 units can be used to help mitigate the risks involved with munitions response. Audience members will have the opportunity to learn about munitions response and ask whatever questions they might have about Deep Trekker ROVs or mini-ROVs in general.

“We are excited to demonstrate one of the lesser known ways our ROVs are used,” says Sam Macdonald, Deep Trekker President. “The applications for our mini-ROVs are endless and we welcome the chance to share just one of the cool ways it is used.”
