National Aboriginal Aquaculture Fund
“Sagkeeng First Nation, located in the Province of Manitoba, Canada, was one of 24 communities and individuals who obtained funding through the National Aboriginal Aquaculture Fund (NAAF). The fund was offered as part of the Strategic Partnerships Initiative (SPI), which is the implementation program for the Federal Framework for Aboriginal Economic Development introduced in 2009.” When Amanda and myself were attending Aquaculture Canada in BC earlier this year we had the pleasure of meeting Lyle Morrisseau, a representative for the Sagkeeng First Nation and we can vouch for the enthusiasm that is surrounding this initiative.
“The amount of funding available varied depending on whether the applicant is a community or an individual. A community could receive up to $250,000 and individuals could receive up to $99,999. Applicants are not limited solely to NAAF funding though.”
