Jack W Fisher Passes Away at 73

Amanda Coulas   |   March 11, 2015

It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of a pioneer in the underwater robotics industry. Jack W Fisher, president of JW Fisher Manufacturing passed away at home after a brief illness on February 20, 2015. He was 73 years old. Jack has been an icon to the ROV and diving industry ever since he started his company in the 1960s. Even though Jack’s story began long before ours did here a Deep Trekker – we have always looked to JW Fishers as a pillar in the industry, starting his business by building an underwater metal detector at a time where no other such devices existed.

JW Fisher has been in business for over 50 years, expanding his business from just underwater metal detectors to providing one of the most diverse underwater equipment product lines. With our story beginnings starting from a lost flashlight and the dream to design an affordable, portable, and easy to use ROV, we have always seen JW Fishers Mfg as an inspiration to what a dream can achieve. We first met Jack at DEMA 2012, our very first commercial trade show. It was evident that his passion for underwater equipment poured over into both sales and engineering. He was a great leader in the industry and will be sincerely missed.

We wish our deepest sympathies and continued success to his family. Mrs. Karen Fisher, Jack's wife of 30 years, will assume the role of company president. His son, Brian Smith-Fisher, will take on the responsibilities of Chief Operating Officer. Christopher Combs, who was previously Sales Manager and has been with the company for 43 years, will become General Manager.
