The Ocean is in Trouble & We Need Your Ideas

Kiara Vallier   |   May 4, 2016

We always prefer to share good news. However, sometimes important issues need to be addressed and awareness of them needs to be developed. If you’re a reader of Deep Trekker's blog, you likely have some (if not a lot) of knowledge on the state of the oceans and maritime exploration. After all, we are a company that carries ocean exploration tools.

It seems as though every time we browse the internet for information about the state of the oceans a new study has appeared warning about the detrimental effects that plastic waste, pollution, energy accidents, and other environmental concerns have on our Earth’s waters. In a recent study published in Global Biochemical Cycles, scientists predict that our oceans may begin to suffocate by the year 2030.

Unfortunately many people believe that the state of our Earth and Oceans is not of concern to them because they “won’t be around by the time the issues pose problems to everyday life”. This new study demonstrates that the complex challenges facing the Seas should be an immediate priority. 2030 is less than 15 years away, making this a very real concern for people in today’s world.

Our oceans are the pillars of all life on Earth.

In the words of Sylvia Earle “We need to respect the oceans and take care of them as if our lives depend on it. Because they do.” So many factors, like climate and weather patterns, ecosystems, food chains, and so much more depend on the oceans to function. If the oceans suffocate and dead zones continue to expand, the results may be catastrophic.

Normally we would list a few different ways in which you, the reader, can help develop or promote ocean conservation. However, this time, we would like to ask you to comment in the section below to offer different ways and steps that you believe can make a difference and aid in the fight for this vital resource.
