With Aquaculture Europe 2015 starting tomorrow and our presentation on ROVs improving farm operations just days away, we wanted to share some basic facts about the global salmon farming industry. Over the years, the aquaculture industry as a whole has faced immense criticism from various groups across the globe. While being concerned about food safety, marine ecosystems and fish welfare are all important factors to think about, much of the dialogue has missed some critical points regarding the importance of the industry.

With the global population continuing to increase, the challenge of feeding the world becomes more and more daunting. Farming within the oceans is one of the most effective solutions to this problem and many aquaculture professionals are doing everything that they can to provide a healthy means of farming protein while still mitigating the risks to the environment.

Recently, the International Salmon Farmer’s Association released an info graphic displaying some critical facts about salmon farming that are often overlooked by critics of the industry. Comparatively to other means of agriculture, aquaculture has the least amount of waste per output.
