Magnetic Utility Crawler for inspections and non destructive testing of ship hulls, steel pipes, turbines and more.
The MAG is a three wheeled crawler, with magnets inside of the wheel hubs and a silicon and rubber cover for traction and to avoid damaging the surface it is driving on. The magnets allow the vehicle to "stick" to a steel or ferrous surface, driving vertically or even upside down on the steel. The back pivot wheel is able to turn 360 degrees, allowing the vehicle to turn in one position with zero turning radius, making it extremely maneueverable.
The vehicle is not able to jump from one surface to another via a quick angle or obstacle, however it can drive through marine growth and around smooth bends and surfaces, making it ideal for larger diameter pipes and ship hulls.
The crawler is equipped with a forward facing camera and LED floodlights, allowing you to see live from the handheld controller that is connected via tether to the crawler what it is seeing, making it an effective inspection and survey tool. The advantage of being attached to the surface is that it can hold steady even in high water currents and deploy a variety of tools while operating, such as a thickness gauge, pressure washer head or imaging sonar.
