This process was not only expensive but also inefficient, prompting the company to seek a more effective solution.
Integrating the ROV into their workflow has provided an efficient alternative to traditional inspection methods. The ability to measure thickness underwater without requiring a diving team or additional vessels has streamlined their operations. The team also aims to further expand its capabilities with bathymetric surveys, pending sonar integration.
ROVs quickly detect corrosion, misalignment, and damage in subsea cables and pipelines—without costly downtime or diver risk.
Several features of the Deep Trekker ROV have proven particularly valuable to Ynamly Yol Hyzmaty:
“Firstly, it is an easy and quick deployment of a ROV using a hook and cable, whereas competitors for launching into the water use ship cranes and divers to detach from the hook,” remarked Orazgylych Jumaniyazov, Inspector of NDT laboratory.
The ability to quickly deploy the ROV using a simple hook and cable system eliminates the need for ship cranes and diver assistance. This approach reduces setup time and operational costs.
The addition of the ROV has enabled Ynamly Yol Hyzmaty to take on new underwater inspection projects and meet increasing customer demands. They have secured contracts for vessel inspections, including work on ferries and tugboats. They have obtained international certifications from the Russian Maritime Register and Bureau Veritas of France, for measurements of the residual thicknesses of the hull of marine vessels and offshore platforms. These certifications ensure compliance with international inspection standards and have positioned Ynamly Yol Hyzmaty as a more versatile service provider.
“We primarily build and repair ships, but now we can also conduct a wide range of vessel inspections, as well as underwater asset inspections of offshore platforms,” noted Timur. “With the addition of the ROV, we are able to perform detailed underwater inspections that were previously only possible with divers, allowing us to offer more comprehensive services to our clients.”
Ynamly Yol Hyzmaty has integrated the Deep Trekker ROV into its daily operations, allowing for efficient and precise underwater inspections across multiple applications. From measuring steel thickness on offshore structures to assessing pipeline integrity and conducting vessel inspections, the company has leveraged ROV technology to improve data accuracy, reduce costs, and enhance safety.
One of the most significant applications of the Deep Trekker ROV for Ynamly Yol Hyzmaty is underwater thickness measurement. Utilizing the integrated Cygnus thickness gauge, the company has successfully conducted precise steel thickness assessments without requiring divers or additional vessels. This capability has improved operational efficiency and data collection, particularly for support column assessments.
Thickness measurements were conducted on the support columns of a self-lifting drilling rig, providing critical maintenance insights. Steel thickness was measured every foot along the column, ensuring structural integrity and identifying potential corrosion or material loss. The use of the Cygnus gauge has provided Ynamly Yol Hyzmaty with accurate, repeatable measurements critical for assessing material degradation and planning maintenance schedules. By eliminating the need for human divers, they have improved both safety and efficiency. The data collected allows engineers to detect early signs of corrosion, structural weaknesses, or necessary repairs, ensuring long-term integrity for underwater assets.
Additionally, the ability to conduct real-time inspections has allowed Ynamly Yol Hyzmaty to deliver faster reports to clients, reducing downtime for vessels and offshore structures. This rapid turnaround is particularly valuable in the oil and gas sector, where operational continuity is a top priority. The precision of the Cygnus gauge, combined with the maneuverability of the Deep Trekker ROV, has made it an essential tool for conducting thorough underwater evaluations.
“Before acquiring the ROV, we planned to hire a diving team to inspect and measure the thickness of the support columns on the drilling rig, but this was very expensive and required several divers to work at great depths, which also took time,” explained Timur. “We would have also needed to hire a vessel for the divers. Fortunately, with the ROV, we were able to complete the work more efficiently, saving money and time while building our reputation with an international client.”
In addition to thickness measurements, Ynamly Yol Hyzmaty conducted visual inspections of underwater pipelines using the Deep Trekker ROV. These inspections focused on identifying external defects, marine growth, and potential structural issues. The high-definition camera and lighting system allowed operators to capture clear images and videos, which were later analyzed for signs of wear or damage.
This visual inspection capability enabled engineers to assess pipeline conditions without requiring divers, reducing both risk and cost. The collected footage was reviewed to determine if further maintenance or repairs were necessary, contributing to a proactive approach in infrastructure monitoring.
In addition to conducting underwater thickness measurements, Ynamly Yol Hyzmaty utilizes the Deep Trekker ROV for a variety of underwater vessel inspections. The ROV plays a vital role in inspecting critical components of marine vessels, including the underwater hull, steering system, and kingston valves. These inspections are essential for maintaining the integrity and safety of vessels, ensuring they are fit for operation.
