A View From Below: Lake Invaders
Deep Trekker ROVs have proven themselves as great tools in a number of different industries. If you read back through our blog you will notice how there are a number of different applications for our units whether it be water treatment, energy production, aquaculture, infrastructure inspections and so many more. While our mini-ROVs have proven themselves in these industries we have not touched very much on how they can be used as stewards of the sea and help with marine conservation.
The more we learn about our oceans, the higher the chances are for conservation. That is why marine and environmental research is so critical when developing policies for change. Though we have not shared as many marine research stories with you until now, our Deep Trekker ROVs are the perfect research tool for anyone looking to learn more or expand their work into the depths of the seas.
One great example of our units being used to help expand environmental research in the Canadian Great Lakes has been run by Environment Canada and a team of scientists. They are working on a project to determine how invasive zebra mussels are impacting the ecological systems and nitrogen levels in the Canadian Great Lakes. Before a research station can be set up, it is critical that the team find the proper areas to conduct their studies. That is where the DTG2 ROV comes in. The team is using their very own Deep Trekker ROV to characterize the lake beds and determine the perfect sites to take their samples.
