The aquaculture industry today faces many challenges as more and more consumers question the practices involved in the industry. People do not want to consume species that have been grown in crowded pens or doused with antibiotics. In response to the high consumer feedback surrounding the global aquaculture industry the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) is a leading certification and labelling program for responsibly farmed seafood, that promotes the best environmental and social performance in aquaculture. The purpose of the certification labelling program is to allow consumers the ability to identify the products that were farmed in conditions that they agree with.
The Fish Site explains the program in detail here.
By looking for fish marked with the label presented above, you can be sure that the fish you are consuming was farmed in a safe and healthy environment. Obtaining this certification label is gaining momentum as one of the top tasks for aquaculture sites around the world.
