Discover how DeepTrekker underwater robots are making waves with clean technology and innovative, environmental solutions. The remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) on display at the AANS Sea Farmers Conference 2018 in Halifax, Canada.
As Deep Trekker prepares to present its aquaculture inspection technologies at the AANS Seafarmers Conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia on January 25-26th, the company looks to make innovations that can be adopted as part of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Clean Technology Adoption Program recently announced by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.
Fisheries and Aquaculture Clean Technology Adoption ProgramMinister Keith Colwell of the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture and Deputy Minister Catherine Blewett of Fisheries and Oceans Canada were announced this week as the speakers for the opening address of the AANS Seafarmers Conference.
Underwater ROV for Aquaculture
Deep Trekker underwater inspection systems were developed and refined over the past 7 years to support the aquaculture community in achieving these goals with their underwater ROV. Now more than ever before, underwater robots are making it possible to protect the environment, giving fish farmers eyes under the waves and allowing them to monitor water conditions effectively.
“We are thrilled to have worked with our customers in the aquaculture industry, to create underwater inspection systems, that are aligned with the clean technology initiatives of Fisheries and Oceans Canada,” says Sam MacDonald, President, Deep Trekker Inc. “The DTG2 ROV gives aquaculture farmers the ability to continually inspect their underwater assets, and safely keep track of ecological impacts on fish and habitat.”
Canadian AquacultureNova Scotia has been a significant contributor to the rapidly growing Canadian aquaculture industry. With interests in sustainable fish, shellfish and seaweed aquaculture, local farmers need a portable, affordable, and easy solutions to run their farms.
Aquaculture Inspections and MaintenanceDeep Trekker ROVs offer farmers the opportunity to perform inspection and monitoring tasks while mitigating the costs and dangers of hiring divers. Additionally, challenging ocean currents and greater depths require that the infrastructure of offshore aquaculture farms be improved and developed to withstand the environment. An ROV like the DTG2 can offer numerous solutions.
Depth rating of 150 meters, the DTG2 ROV is the perfect system for underwater inspections and best for navigating around fishing farms. The sensors allow operators to easily establish the temperature of the water and determine the depth and heading of the ROV once it is underwater and out of sight. With onboard batteries and 6-8 hours of battery life, fish farmers never have to worry about lugging around multiple cases or generators on site. Its internal rotating HD camera is also proven to help complete inspection faster. It is built to quickly sweep large areas, and hold its camera orientation while inspecting a certain area in detail.
