Deep Trekker’s line of submersible robotics are being used to help maintain and monitor clean drinking water across the globe. The team will attend Water for People Nonprofit event – a leader in providing safe drinking water for generations to come.
Championing 'Water For People' NonprofitWater and sanitation are critical to the survival of people and the planet - the very heart of sustainable development. For most of us, the idea that water could keep us from going to school, doing our job or providing for our families is a strange one - even impossible. For millions of people around the world - this is a reality.
- 2.1 billion people around the world don’t have access to clean drinking water
- Women and children spend 125 million combined hours each day collecting water.
- 4.5 billion lack access to adequate sanitation
- Women and girls living without a toilet spend 266 million hours each day finding a place to go
- 892 million still defecate in the open, for example in street gutters, behind bushes or into open bodies of water
- 840,000 people die each year from water-related diseases. Diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid, and polio.
- At least 10% of the world’s population is thought to consume food irrigated by wastewater.
Sustainable Development GoalThe United Nations introduced the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) platform in 2016, an aggressive and worldwide agenda outlining 17 goals to be leveraged to fruition on a global scale by 2030. SDG Goal #6 is universal access to water, sanitation and hygiene services (WASH). This is a very ambitious goal, and it requires support from organizations that are willing to work on greater collusion around these imperative issues - solutions sustained by strong communities, businesses, and governments.
Water for PeopleCreated in 1991, Water for People (WFP) has established itself as a leader of social innovation and responsibility, in the sanitation sector. Supported by the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and the American Water Work Association (AWWA), the organization not only addresses the issues relating to drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene, but also the quality and sustainability of water resources worldwide. Working in 9 different countries that are suffering from all of the above development pressures, WFP is not just building wells but is delivering long-term, sustainable solutions within communities.
Deep Trekker Advocating for Clean WaterSince its inception, Deep Trekker has been an advocate of accessible water, the globe over. Passionate about preservation, conservation and best practices supporting infrastructure creation and management in all water systems - the team works closely with communities, municipalities, cities, and governments in more than 80 countries to create ways to monitor, maintain and develop healthy waterways. As passionate advocates, we, of course, hold great affection for other businesses or NGOs who are making a difference. In April, we are thrilled to be participating in two events in support of Water for People.
A Charity Dinner for those participating at WEAO in London, Ontario on Monday, April 16, 2018, is being held at the Fox and the Fiddle in downtown London, Ont with all proceeds going to WFP. Sunday, April 29th, 2018, the Deep Trekker team is heading to Niagara Falls, Ont for a networking event with other WFP supporting industry professionals. All efforts at this event are sponsoring Water for People.
The development of remotely operated vehicles has bridged a gap between the world of technology and the basic needs of many communities. Deep Trekker will continue to support organizations like Water for People with visions of “a world where all people have access to safe water and adequate sanitation.”
