June 8th is World Oceans Day, a United Nations-recognized day of ocean celebration and action. Our oceans provide 80% of our oxygen, all of us must do our part in order to protect it.
What can you do?
1. Reduce your Carbon FootprintHealthy Oceans, Healthy Planet
There is more and more CO2 in our oceans every day. Even though each of us can only change the small things like walking or biking instead of driving or reducing energy consumption, together we are all part of a greater movement.
2. Reduce Plastics
We've posted about Ocean Rockstars in the past, one of our favorites is Boyan Slat - he's making real change in cleaning up Plastic in the Ocean . Continue this movement by removing any plastics you may find littered in your neighborhood.
3. Avoid Styrofoam
We are boaters ourselves, we love heading out on the lake or down to Florida for the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, but Styrofoam kills marine life. 70% found in the ocean is from boaters and beach lovers from boat fenders, styrofoam plates and cups. Use an alternative.
4. Learn about the waterways around you and our vast ocean environment
Seeing is believing. We know less about our underwater world, than we do space! Unless we all start to see what is happening underwater, we will never begin to understand it and protect it. That's why we love our customers who are out every day or on the weekends with their Deep Trekker remotely operated vehicle, exploring and observing the underwater environment. We hope that you will take a moment on World Oceans Day to look below the waves, with a Deep Trekker ROV, with your scuba gear, or even on Google's Ocean Street View.
5. Share your Knowledge
Share, Post, Tweet about World Oceans Day. We can all have a part in getting our communities involved in the conservation of our oceans, our planet.
